MID-CENTURY HAVEN
FRONT YARD
DAVIS, CA | 2016
This landscape is inspired by the clean lines and mid-century modern style of the home. Steel terraces define the space, creating frames for three levels of planting, and concrete slabs provide a stepped walkway, inviting visitors to the front door. Tucked away at the top of the garden, a small terrace offers a shaded seating area for the homeowners.
The drought tolerant plantings are grouped together in large architectural swaths for a modern and clean look. Three agaves punctuate a bed of Spanish lavender and provide a focal point to the design. Ornamental grasses on the bottom terrace help to soften the space. Patches of annual native wildflowers create a pollinator garden in the spring.
This project was featured in a Washington Post article about replacing lawns with drought-tolerant landscapes. Read it here!
